Hi, I'm Wes.
I'm a senior engineer who's spent two decades shipping software for everyone from scrappy startups to insurance giants. Refinery Consulting is where I put that experience to work for clients I actually like — small teams, founders, and businesses that want serious software without the enterprise bullshit.
I write Rust, Go, Python, TypeScript, Swift, and Kotlin every week, and I lead an engineering portfolio at Horace Mann during the day. Refinery is where I ship the side projects, take consulting engagements, and build the SaaS products you see on this site.
The arc
I grew up debugging things. Spent years inside enterprise teams shipping platforms used by thousands of people. Got to lead engineering at Horace Mann, where I run a portfolio of customer-facing apps. Started Refinery Consulting because the most fun software I've ever built was the stuff I built for one client, in a week, with a clear deadline and zero meetings.
Now I split my time between AI consulting for founders and small businesses, and shipping a handful of SaaS products under the Refinery banner — Foundry Refined for boutique wellness studios, Reforge Fitness for gyms and trainers, and a swim-team SaaS coming soon. Each one started with a real client problem and got generalized into something I can sell.
How I work
- I quote a price. I hit it. If I don't, you don't pay.
- I write the code. I don't hand it off to a junior or outsource it.
- I show up on time, deliver the thing, and move on.
- I'm unusually fast with AI — most of my productivity edge comes from knowing exactly when to use it and when to type the code myself.
What I'm good at
AI consulting
Cutting through hype to find the AI workflows that actually move your numbers.
Full-stack engineering
From schema to UI to deploy pipeline — I write all of it and it's fast.
Founder/CTO partnerships
Embedded engineering for early-stage teams that need someone senior, fast.
Fast prototypes
Working proof-of-concept in days, not months.
